The picture quality of Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-32S5100 is comparable to a Sony 40” XBR2 model, which is a pleasant surprise. You can buy it from Amazon at a much lower price than Sears or BB. Great picture notwithstanding, there are some issues with this Sony 32 LED TV that prevents it from getting a 5 star rating.

One is the time it takes for the picture to appear after turning it on, and switching from one input to another takes longer than the XBR2. Another is setting the sleep timer, since it doesn’t have a dedicated “Sleep” button as most remotes do. On the Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-32S5100 you need to hit the “Tools” button, and then select “Clock/Timers,” choose your sleep time, and then finally press the “Menu” button to clear the screen menu. Well, these are not really big issues, but there is one issue that is a big deal.

This Sony TV’s audio output has a noticeable amount of noise, particularly at low volume. Maybe the signal is over-modulated because it disappears at higher volumes. Using component, HDMI, and composite inputs have the same results. Placing external speakers will likely remove the problem, but if you’re putting this unit in your bedroom, then it’s likely to remain a concern.
If you don’t intend to use the speakers on this Sony 32 LED TV, then it rates 4 stars for picture quality. It should be 5, but the DVD player output will only look good if the picture is set to a 4:3 aspect ratio so it won’t distort. You get great pictures from a PS3 set if you use HDMI cable. For this Sony TV, the sound at low volume is really the problem.

Sony will send you a technician if you have this audio problem with your Sony Bravia S-Series KDL-32S5100. But if the problem persists, many reviewers say getting Sony Customer Service to help you out is a pain. If you’re not satisfied with their service you can always look at the latest Samsung 1080 32” or Panasonic models as replacement.
